Who are you becoming?

This past weekend Jon and I went on an adventure to Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge. A decade ago, I used to make an annual pilgrimage to the refuge every December for their Eagle Days celebration. The time there brought back wonderful memories of friends and the experiences we shared. It was a reminder that it is important to choose how I spend my time.

Daniel Pink recently asked a similar question, “Is what I’m doing right now going to be of lasting value to me or to others?”

In my world, time gets consumed online in-between meeting after event after meeting all while texting to keep business and family schedules synced and moving. The reality is that I’m riding along on the wave and taking my family and business along for the ride. What I choose directly influences who I become and what lasting value I create.

It’s time to stop and ask the question, “Is what I’m doing right now going to be of lasting value to me or to others?” And, then reflect on how I am choosing to use my time.

And yes, we saw over 30 eagles.

Your reflections and comments really made me stop!

This is the time of year I do my planning and decide where I will volunteer my time and what I can do to most positively influence my business growth and profitability. Somewhere in all of those thoughts I also think about balancing those plans with family commitments and relationships.

The past few years have been difficult for so many, and that includes small business owners. I feel the presure to do more, even though there might not be clients to do it with right now, but I want to be ready. There is value to preparation, but the value to the universe and my family, and to me might look differently through another set of glasses.

Your comments sparked an idea for re-thinking the process by which I have been thinking about my business. I’m also going to check out Daniel Pink’s blog. Stay tuned, and thank you.

    With a smile,

      Debbie,
Thank you for your feedback. There is much to consider here. Your metaphor of looking “through another set of glasses” really connects with me and challenges me in new ways.

We both have passions for helping others re-invent, transform, and rethink their habits and patterns. Isn’t it fun when we can also have those aha moments through the kindness of others influencing us through dialogue?

Have a fabulous day. It’s freezing in Atlanta – not sure how the winter is going where you are?

      Debbie,
Yes, I experience dialogue with friends as creative grace – touching mind and spirit.

Today I like the quote from Elizabeth Edwards, “Each of us just needs a story: a story worth telling, a story worth living. A story of a life that in some small measure matters.”

Thank you for contributing to my story. It’s getting colder here – 54 today and tomorrow, then 12 – brrr. Stay warm – Atlanta isn’t suppsed to be freezing!
